The Polish State Labour Inspectorate will conduct an inspection in the Krakow branch of international automotive parts producer Aptiv, where over 200 people were reportedly abruptly fired, according to one of their workers.

The company reportedly carried out the layoff of around 200 people, who were made redundant "overnight."

"Roughly 250 people received a notice of termination. They were informed of that on Monday at around 12pm," an Aptiv employee told PAP on Wednesday.

"The reason for that was supposed to be restructuring of the company and a difficult situation on the market," they added. It also appears that no criteria were given for selecting the workers to be dismissed.

The employee went on to say that the company board maintained that the procedure was carried out in accordance with the law.

The Aptiv company informed PAP later on Wednesday that in the coming days they are planning to issue their official statement on the matter. So far, no further comment has been given.

The request for an urgent inspection in Aptiv Services S.A. to the State Labour Inspectorate branch in Krakow was issued by MPs from the social-democratic Together party: Daria Gosek-Popiolek, Adrian Zandberg and Maciej Konieczny.

They are demanding that the company be checked for compliance with the legislation concerning group layoffs, as well as whether civil law contracts were in force in cases where, according to the Polish labour code, regular employment contracts should be given out. (PAP)
