Decisions on Ukraine to be guided by Poland's security, says Tusk

The government will make decisions on Ukraine to ensure Poland's security rather than being influenced by polls or the opinions of commentators, Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said.

On Monday, Tusk took part in an emergency summit of European leaders organised by French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss the US administration's policy on Ukraine peace talks.

Before his departure to the Paris meeting, Tusk reiterated that there were no plans to send Polish troops to Ukraine. However, Poland would provide logistical and political support to countries who would choose to deploy their soldiers for a peace-keeping mission to Ukraine.

After the meeting, Tusk told journalists that the summit was "only a prelude to what will happen in the coming weeks and months". He said that he was pleased to hear from everyone that it was in the interest of all of Europe to work intensively to strengthen cooperation among allies.

"Neither opinion polls, nor suggestions made by agitated commentators will influence my decisions regarding Ukraine," Tusk wrote on the X platform on Tuesday. "Poland's security - this will be my only guidance," he wrote, adding that the Polish government and diplomacy were working towards that goal in agreement with Poland's allies and Ukraine.(PAP)
