Poland's National Environmental Protection and Water Management Fund (NFOSiGW) has launched a programme that will provide support to businesses active in the energy transition area.

According to the statement issued by the NFOSiGW on Monday, companies would be able to apply for funds from the programme starting in the second quarter of 2025, with disbursement of the funds expected to occur by the second quarter of 2026 at the latest.

NFOSiGW explained that the EUR 1.1 billion in funding would come from the revised European Union's National Recovery Plan (KPO) for Poland. This funding aims to support the energy transition for Polish enterprises of various sizes engaged in renewable energy sources and electromobility. Grants would be allocated to initiatives such as the development of low-emission industrial infrastructure and the generation and storage of clean energy.

The KPO plan is part of the EU's Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) which is designed to restore and enhance the socio-economic resilience of member states in the aftermath of the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and the repercussions of Russia's aggression towards Ukraine.

For months, the EU froze the money for Poland due to concerns regarding rule of law matters associated with the socially-conservative Law and Justice (PiS) administration, which remained in power until December 2023.

In February 2024, the European Commission found that Poland had met the so-called milestones, including ensuring the independence of the judiciary, thereby permitting the release of the funds. (PAP)
