Some 52 percent of Poles are in favour of legalising same-sex civil unions, but support for introducing legal standards for heterosexual civil unions is much stronger, at 90 percent, a survey has found.

Forty-three percent of the respondents to a CBOS survey, published on Friday, opposed same-sex civil unions, while only six percent were against heterosexual unions.

Four percent were undecided when it comes to heterosexual unions and five percent had no opinion on same-sex unions.

Supporters of same-sex civil unions tend to be voters of the current ruling coalition, comprising the liberal Left (93 percent of voters support the idea), the centrist Civic Coalition (82 pct) and the centre-conservative Third Way (72 pct).

Voters of the far-right Confederation and the socially-conservative Law and Justice were found to be the strongest opponents of same-sex unions, with 72 and 68 percent of them against, respectively.

CBOS carried out the survey on a sample of 1,076 Poles between July 4 and 14, 2024. (PAP)
