One dead, seven hospitalised in house fire in Czestochowa

One person has died, and seven people have been taken to hospital in the wake of a fire which ripped through an apartment building in Poland's southern city of Czestochowa, Slaskie province.

The blaze started overnight from Monday to Tuesday on the second floor of a four-storey building.

According to the Silesian Province Crisis Management Centre in Katowice, the city fire department received an emergency call at 2:30am local time.

Upon arriving at the scene, rescuers evacuated 50 people and hospitalized seven, including a child.

The flames were extinguished by 5:40am, allowing residents to return to their homes. (PAP)
