"Poland and Germany have become very important economic partners," said Kirsten Scholl, director general of the German Ministry of Economy and Climate Protection. "Today, Poland is Germany's fifth largest partner in the world and is ahead of France, Great Britain and Italy."
She pointed out that Poland has become an attractive place to invest for German companies, as it is also a country where many technologies important to the whole of Europe are located.
"We must speak with one voice, strengthening the competitiveness of our economies," she went on to say.
The importance of Polish-German economic relations was also emphasised by Deputy Minister of Development and Technology Ignacy Niemczycki.
"We are Germany's second largest partner in Europe," he said. "We are ahead of such close (German – PAP) partners as France."
He also pointed out that Germany was the second largest foreign investor in Poland, as the total value of capital invested by German companies in Poland at the end of 2022 amounted to over EUR 42.5 billion.
"These data show the scale of our cooperation," said Niemczycki.
On Tuesday, Polish-German intergovernmental consultations are taking place in Warsaw under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Economic matters are among the topics under discussion. (PAP)
