Poland's new health minister Izabela Leszczyna, since the beginning of her term in office, has focused on importing as many doses of the Covid-19 vaccine as possible, Damian Kuras, the ministry's spokesperson, said at a press conference on Thursday.
"As of today, almost 800,000 Nuvaxovid vaccines have been delivered to Poland," he said. "More than 360,000 people have already been vaccinated."
He went on to say that thanks to the minister's efforts, an additional 200,000 vaccines are now available to the public.
"We have 80,000 appointments available for Covid-19 vaccinations, so there should be no problems signing up," Kuras said, adding that "20,000 people have already enrolled."
In recent months, the number of Covid-19 infections have been rising again and the new Nuvaxovid vaccine is adjusted to help fight the newest coronavirus sub-variant called XBB.1.5.
Kuras pointed out that vaccinations can be carried out both in Primary Health Care (POZ) facilities and in pharmacies. The country has almost 2,500 locations, including 400 pharmacies, providing the service.
All citizens aged 12 and over are eligible to take the jabs, provided that they received their last Covid-19 vaccine at least six months before or have never been vaccinated against the coronavirus. (PAP)
