The Polish foreign minister has confirmed Poland's participation in a Czech-led multinational initiative to procure and send ammunition to Ukraine.

Radoslaw Sikorski held a press conference with his Czech counterpart Jan Lipavsky on the eve of the Visegrad Group (V4) meeting, a regional grouping comprising Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, in Prague.

Sikorski thanked Lipavsky for the Czech plan to purchase ammunition.

"This proves that with ingenuity, with initiative, one can influence the fate of all of Europe," he said.

"Poland also confirms its commitment, both financially and logistically, to help get this ammunition to where it is needed."

Both ministers refused to reveal any additional details concerning the initiative. "Putin has ears, too, so we will not make his task of conquering Ukraine any easier," Sikorski said.

They only confirmed that 18 countries have already declared their involvement. Prague reported earlier that funds collected so far will cover 300,000 rounds of ammunition.

"We will defend those norms violated by Russian aggression against Ukraine; this is our priority," Sikorski said. (PAP)
