Polish law enforcement services are searching for a man dressed in a military uniform who informs residents in various locations affected by the ongoing flood that dykes are going to be blown up, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said.

The prime minister made the announcement at a crisis team meeting in the southwestern city of Wroclaw on Thursday morning.

"We are tracking a man; he is dressed in a uniform and visits various locations pretending to be from the military and informs people that dykes will be blown up shortly," Tusk said. "The man travels in a car with fake licence plates, so it's no longer play, it's no amateurism, these are serious issues."

Tusk appealed to the nation to be vigilant to fake news spread by impostors pretending to be officials or servicepeople and immediately inform the police or the military about such cases. (PAP)
