The Prime Minister's Office announced on Tuesday that the government had accepted a new resolution regarding the construction of the country's central transportation hub located in the central city of Baranow, between Warsaw and Lodz, a flagship multi-billion-zloty infrastructure project of the previous Law and Justice (PiS) government.
The document contains the CPK's updated schedule and budget for the years 2024-2030. According to the plan, the first stage of the CPK airport and high-speed rail link, which will transport passengers between CPK and the cities of Warsaw and Lodz in around 100 minutes, will open by 2032.
The total cost of the project will reach PLN 131.7 billion (EUR 30.8 bln) by 2032. The funding will come from the State Treasury, the European Union, as well as bank loans and the CPK's corporate bonds.
The document also states that once the new transportation hub becomes operational, it will take over commercial traffic from Warsaw's main Chopin Airport to ensure the CPK's economic viability. (PAP)
