Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has pledged future support for war-torn Ukraine after his meeting with the country's President Volodymyr Zelensky, in Warsaw.

"Ukraine can count on Polish support and Polish aid," Tusk said on Wednesday. "I am convinced that this is also one of my responsibilities: to assist and support the entire European Union in its defence against the brutal aggression of Russia."

Tusk made the commitment following his talks with Zelensky in Warsaw, where the latter was on an official visit. This meeting is taking place during Poland's presidency of the Council of the European Union, a role that Warsaw assumed earlier this year.

This position, the prime minister said, would help resolve the current stalemate regarding Ukraine's EU membership, and he also pledged to expedite the decision-making process collaboration with Kyiv and its allies.

"The sooner Ukraine becomes an EU member and joins NATO, the sooner we will all achieve geopolitical stability," Zelensky said.

According to Tusk, the foundations of bilateral relations and cooperation between Kyiv and Warsaw are "obvious, unconditional and will remain unchanged."

"The reason for our enduring cooperation is also rooted in a shared sense of mutual interests," he added. (PAP)
