Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at the meeting with the European Parliament's (EP) Conference of Presidents (CoP) that the upcoming Polish presidency of the EU Council will focus on matters concerning broadly understood security.

The CoP of the political groups represented in the European Parliament, led by the EP President Roberta Metsola, came to Warsaw on Thursday to meet with Tusk and other government officials to prepare for the Polish Presidency which will run from January to June 2025.

"We are in the process of preparing the Polish presidency," Tusk told the CoP.

"In accordance with tradition, the country holding the presidency must ensure the best possible relations and good cooperation with the European Parliament, its President and all groups, taking into account common interests, interests, because these are the ones that prevail in our work," he said.

He added that in the current, unstable time, in the face of ongoing armed conflicts, Europe must cooperate with itself.

"Europe still has the chance to be the safest, most stable place on Earth. There is a lot of work ahead of us, a deep correction of certain previous methods of action, but I am convinced that we will find a common language where it is necessary," Tusk continued.

He added that the Polish presidency of the EU Council will be marked by actions concerning security that encompasses various aspects including political, military, economic, environmental and human.

"Whether these will be talks on energy, climate, food, increasing the defence capabilities of Europe as a whole and its member states, transatlantic cooperation, policy towards the Russian-Ukrainian war - everywhere we will have to climb above traditional divisions and we will have to remember that the security of the entire continent depends on us," Tusk said.
