Polish President Andrzej Duda will travel to Brussels on Wednesday to take part in high-level talks on Ukraine, the President's Office has told PAP.

According to Polish Radio, a meeting of a small group of top officials is to be held in Brussels on Wednesday to discuss a potential ceasefire in Ukraine.

The meeting is being organised by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who has invited the leaders of Ukraine, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and Poland, as well as the heads of the European Council and the European Commission.

The talks are expected to focus on future security guarantees for Ukraine and the potential presence of European peacekeeping troops in the country.

The Polish President's Office told PAP on Friday that Duda will represent Poland at the meeting.

The US newspaper The Wall Street Journal wrote on Thursday that US President-elect Donald Trump had suggested to French President Emmanuel Macron that European troops should monitor a future ceasefire in Ukraine.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said after a meeting with Macron in Warsaw on Thursday that Poland was not planning to send peacekeeping troops to Ukraine following a potential ceasefire. (PAP)
