A gangster associated with Karol Nawrocki, the presidential candidate put forward by Law and Justice (PiS), the main opposition party, has been detained, a spokesperson for the interior ministry has said.

"On Thursday officers from the ABW (Internal Security Agency  - PAP) detained 47-year-old Olgierd L. in Gdansk (northern Poland - PAP)," wrote Jacek Dobrzynski on the X platform.

According to PAP sources, the man was detained in connection with an investigation that has been ongoing since the beginning of 2024.

Nawrocki’s association to the gangster has been alleged since the Onet news website published an anonymously submitted report on Sunday describing his connections to the criminal world and neo-nazi circles.

In the article, Onet wrote that the main figures with prominent connections to Nawrocki may be "Olgierd L. - a gangster with convictions for pimping and brutal assaults, and one of the most well-known neo-nazis of his time" and Grzegorz H. "a member of the outlawed organisation Blood and Honour (Blut und Ehre  - the motto of the Hitlerjugend), who maintained relations with the most active neo-nazis across Europe."

According to Onet’s information "L. and H., as well as Nawrocki’s friends from the world of boxing are connected to the motorcycle gang 'Bad Company' with criminals at its core." (PAP)
