US will not reduce troop presence in eastern Europe, says Duda
The United States does not intend to reduce the number of troops stationed in Eastern Europe, Poland's President Andrzej Duda has said following talks with the US envoy for Ukraine.
Duda made the statement after his meeting with General Keith Kellogg, the US special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, on Tuesday afternoon, during which they discussed the ongoing negotiations aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
"Americans have absolutely no intention to reduce activity here in our part of Europe, especially in the area of security, to reduce the number of American soldiers," he said.
According to the president, Kellogg declared the opposite - "strengthening the US presence."
The leaders also discussed the 'Fort Trump' project, with Duda expressing his strong support of the initiative, asserting that it would signify a phase of strengthening the Polish-American alliance, particularly in the military domain.
In 2018, Poland revealed plans to establish a project known as 'Fort Trump,' although this designation was never formally adopted, alongside plans for a new military base intended for the permanent stationing of US troops in Poland; however, this initiative has not been realised. (PAP)
