An AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) aircraft landed in Warsaw Monday night. Its visit coincides with a conference of the NATO E-3A component commanding the AWACS fleet to be held for the first time outside it seat in Geilenkirchen.

"This is not a courtesy call, this is a part of operational tasks", deputy General Commander of the Polish Armed Forces, General Jan Sliwka has said.

General Sliwka said the visit coincides with the quarterly Assurance Measures Scheduling Conference and added that the plane conducted training flights with F-16 pilots from Poland's air base in Krzesiny, outside Poznan.

General Kevin A. Huyck, Deputy Chief of Staff Operations at NATO's Headquarters Allied Air Command, Ramstein Air Base, Germany that during this week's visit allied air command will hold a planning conference regarding further participation of the AWACS fleet in operations extending guarantees to NATO allies.

The general stressed that AWACS flights over, among others, Poland and the Baltic States meet the decisions made during the July 2016 NATO summit in Warsaw concerning the strengthening of NATO's eastern flank. He added that this reflected how seriously, in this case the air force, cooperates with the Polish Air Force. (PAP)
