Protection of Polish and Lithuanian borders is a European agenda and the two countries will raise the issue both in Brussels and Washington, Poland's Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said on Wednesday.

The Polish defence minister, together with his Lithuanian counterpart Laurynas Kasciunas, visited the Lithuania-Belarus border crossing at Padvarionys, southeastern Lithuania.

Kosiniak-Kamysz said that Poland and Lithuania would appeal to the EU to make protection of their borders a fully European matter at the next EU summit and will also raise the issue at the July 9-11 NATO summit in Washington.

"There is a hybrid war ongoing on the Poland-Belarus border, as well as on the Latvian, Lithuanian, and Estonian borders (with Belarus and Russia - PAP)." Kosiniak-Kamysz added.

The Lithuanian defence minister went on to say that "Poland has vast experience in border protection and I think we will be able to share our experience."

The Polish and Lithuanian defence ministers were scheduled to meet again later in the day in Vilnius. (PAP)
