Pichai made the announcement at a press conference in Warsaw on Thursday, following a meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

"We are excited to announce a new memorandum of understanding to use AI to drive economic growth and help transform sectors, including cybersecurity, health and energy," Pichai said, adding that this could add 8 percent to Poland's GDP.

Pichai praised Poland for its ambition and talent, which according to him secured the country a new position in European innovation.

He said Poland was Google's biggest engineering hub, built over the past 20 years, with over 2,000 employees.

Pichai also announced that Google would spend USD 5 million over the next five years on digital skills training in Poland.

Tusk said that on behalf of Poland, the memorandum had been signed by the state-owned Polish Development Fund.

According to the prime minister, the agreement creates a framework for stronger involvement of Google in Poland, including new investments, which he termed as significant for the country's security.

Tusk expressed hope that Google could become part of a project of deregulation in Poland and Europe, an ambition of Poland's current presidency of the Council of the European Union.

"We talked about deregulation, about competitiveness," Tusk said. "Google may also be part of this big, ambitious project, namely the deregulation of the European, but also Polish economy and administration." (PAP)
