Slawosz Uznanski, a Polish astronaut, will go to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2025 in the company of three other colleagues from the US, Hungary and India, the Polish Space Agency (POLSA) has reported.

Uznanski will be only the second Pole to go to space after Miroslaw Hermaszewski debuted as the first Polish astronaut in 1978.

POLSA, which is one of the mission's organisers, said on Friday that Uznanski will be accompanied by mission commander Peggy Whitson from the US, mission pilot Shubhanshu Shukla from India and mission specialist Tibor Kapu from Hungary.

"The crew members must still receive confirmation from the Multilateral Crew Operations Panel which is responsible for the ISS," POLSA said.

The panel comprises NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), Russia's space agency Roskosmos, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA).

The astronauts will be launched into space on the SpaceX company's Falcon 9 rocket from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and will spend about 14 days at the ISS. (PAP)
