The Mateusz Morawiecki new government will be put to a vote of confidence in the Sejm, lower house of parliament, on Monday after the prime minister has delivered a policy speech but is unlikely to remain in office.

Morawiecki's socially conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party won Poland's October 15 general election but lost its parliamentary majority and looks unlikely to stay in power for a third consecutive term.

If the Morawiecki government does not win a vote of confidence, the Sejm will appoint a candidate for prime minister. It will be Donald Tusk, the candidate put forward by the Civic Coalition, the Third Way and the Left.

Morawiecki's minority government was sworn in by the president on November 27.

Morawiecki has led Poland’s socially conservative government since 2017.

The Civic Coalition, the Third Way and the Left have signed an agreement to form a coalition government. Tusk has already chosen most candidates for ministers in his future government.
