Polish tennis players advance to 2nd round of Australian Open

Poland's Jerzy Janowicz and Mariusz Fyrstenberg beat Federico Delbonis and Guillermo Duran. Marcin Matkowski and Lukasz Kubot beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and David Marrero. The Poles advanced to the 2nd round of the Australian Open Men's Doubles in Melbourne.

Poland's Jerzy Janowicz and Mariusz Fyrstenberg beat Argentinians Federico Delbonis and Guillermo Duran 6-4, 7-5 in the first round of the Australian Open Men's Doubles. Next they will face seventh-seeded Briton Jamie Murray and Brazilian Bruno Soares.

Tenth-seeded Marcin Matkowski and Lukasz Kubot beat Spaniards Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and David Marrero 6-1, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3. In the second round of the tournament the Poles will play against experienced tennis players – 37-seven-year-old Czech Radek Stepanek and Canadian Daniel Nestor who is six years older.

Matkowski and Kubot will also take part in the mixed doubles competition, playing in pairs with Czech tennis players Lucie Hradecka and Andrea Hlavackova respectively. (PAP)
