Poland will ramp up its cybersecurity spending over next two years and announced plans to contribute billions of euros for the field.

"In the next two years, we will spend close to PLN 10 billion (EUR 2.3 billion), which will be responsible for the way our state will strengthen its cybersecurity defences," Polish Minister of Digitalisation Krzysztof Gawkowski said on Monday.

He added that a portion of this sum would be allocated for the security of local authorities, which he called the most vulnerable part of the government. Gawkowski claimed that this year has been challenging for Polish cybersecurity, given the increased number of cyberattack incidents.

"We will move infrastructure to the cloud. This is a big challenge, but we must realise that cloud solutions will give and take Polish security to a higher level," Gawkowski said.

According to the minister, Poland will prioritise cybersecurity issues, groundbreaking technology and cyber diplomacy during its EU presidency, which begins in January. (PAP)
