Poland and Slovakia have faced various challenges together and have overcome them together, the president of Slovakia has said after a meeting with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda.

Peter Pellegrini who, on Thursday, is in Warsaw on a working visit, said during a joint press conference with Polish President Andrzej Duda that Poland and Slovakia, this year, were marking a common historical path.

The two countries were united by shared experiences, he said, such as "the narratives of our prosperous and beneficial memberships in the European Union and NATO," as he noted that Poland was marking its 25th year in the Alliance and Slovakia its twentieth.

Additionally, he pointed out that Poland was a key strategic partner of Slovakia and ranked among the top three countries in terms of trade and investment in Slovakia.

Pellegrini further mentioned that in his conversation with President Duda, the leaders discussed various topics, including the agenda for the upcoming NATO summit in Washington.

The issue of defense spending was also brought up and Pellegrini said that Slovakia had already surpassed the two percent threshold of GDP allocated to defense spending.

He also noted the presence of NATO troops in both countries and declared that his country had the capability to increase the number of multinational units in Slovakia.

The Slovak president also admitted that the presidents devoted much attention to the war in Ukraine.

"I assured the president that we have the same opinion when it comes to Russia's unprovoked aggression," he said. "Slovakia firmly rejects the annexation of Crimea and the change of borders, which were carried out with violence and in violation of all international agreements and regulations." (PAP)
