Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces (SGWP) General Wieslaw Kukula talked on the phone with Chair of the NATO Military Committee Admiral Robert Bauer about security on NATO's eastern border in light of recent events in Ukraine, SGWP has said.

The SGWP wrote on the X platform on Tuesday that "the key discussion centered on the security of Poland, in the context of the recent airspace breach."

A search is underway for an object that flew into Polish territory during a recent Russian attack on Ukraine.

Early on Monday morning, Russia launched a massive air attack on Ukraine, primarily targeting its energy infrastructure, including in regions bordering Poland. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Russians hit the country with over 100 missiles and around 100 attack drones.

General Maciej Klisz from the Operational Command of the Armed Forces (DORSZ) told a briefing later on Monday that at least three radar stations confirmed the entry of the unidentified object.

He said that the object entered Poland at 6.43am Polish time near the Ukrainian town of Chervonohrad. This site had already been attacked several times by the Russian side, he said, due to the power plant that is located there.

The Military Committee (MC) is the senior military authority in NATO and the oldest permanent body in NATO after the North Atlantic Council, both had been formed only months after the alliance came into being.

It is the primary source of military advice to the North Atlantic Council and the Nuclear Planning Group and gives directions to the two strategic commanders.(PAP)
