Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has denied speculations that he would become a presidential nominee of his centre-right political party Civic Coalition (KO).

The prime minister said on Wednesday that the KO presidential frontrunner will be announced on December 7 in the southern province of Silesia.

"First and foremost, it will be someone best suited for the office; secondly, is most likely to win, and thirdly, I will not be the one," Tusk wrote on the X platform.

Next August, Poles will cast their ballots for a new president, which means the end of the second and last cadence for the current head of state, Andrzej Duda. After last year's general election, which brought a KO-led coalition to power, Duda remains the main representative of the right-wing Law and Justice (PiS) party. (PAP)
