The European Commission (EC) has approved, under EU state aid rules, a Polish support measure of approximately EUR 194 million for the construction of an offshore wind terminal in the Polish seaport of Gdansk, according to information listed on the EC’s website.

The total investment cost of the project is EUR 253 million, out of which the state support will be EUR 194 million. The remaining part will be financed by the beneficiary's own funds.

The beneficiary of the measure is the Istrana company, which is set to build the terminal.

"Good news: After years of delays, there is a 'green light' from the European Commission for the construction of a terminal in Gdansk for Polish wind farms on the Baltic Sea," Deputy Minister of Funds and Regional Policy Jan Szyszko wrote in his response to the announcement on the X platform on Friday. "We (Poland – PAP) will invest over one million (PLN – PAP) from the KPO in the terminal."

KPO is Poland's multi-billion-euro National Recovery Plan, which is funded by the EU's pandemic recovery NextGenerationEU package. (PAP)
