The European Commission, the EU's executive arm, has given the green light to Polish public aid to an investment in a major semiconductor plant by US chipmaker Intel, the country's digital affairs minister has announced.

"The EC has informed us that there is the green light to Intel's investment in Poland," Krzysztof Gawkowski said at a press briefing on Friday.

Poland's public aid to the investment will reach over PLN 7.4 billion (EUR 1.73 bln) in 2024-2026, Gawkowski added.

"The whole semiconductor facility investment is worth over PLN 25 billion (EUR 5.83 bln)," he also said.

In June 2023, Intel announced plans to invest USD 4.6 billion in the construction of a semiconductor integration and testing plant in Miekinia within the Legnica Special Economic Zone in southwestern Poland.(PAP)
