Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has appointed Andrzej Papierz as Poland's new deputy foreign minister, head of the ministry press office Artur Lompart informed PAP on Tuesday.

At the same time the PM recalled Jan Dziedziczak from his post of deputy foreign minister.

According to Lompart, Papierz will fill the post held earlier by Deputy Foreign Minister Joanna Wronecka, who took over as Poland's permanent representative to the UN in December.

Minister Papierz is to be responsible for issues linked with the Polish Diaspora, contacts with the Polish parliament and public diplomacy, areas which up until now have been overseen by Minister Dziedziczak.

Following the reshuffle, the Polish Foreign Ministry's list of top staff includes Secretary of State for European Affairs Konrad Szymanski, and four undersecretaries of state: Andrzej Papierz, Bartosz Cichocki (eastern and consular affairs and security policy), Marek Magierowski (American, Asian, African, Middle Eastern policy and economic diplomacy) and Piotr Wawrzyk (legal and treaty issues).

Andrzej Papierz was Poland's Consul General in Istanbul. Earlier, the new deputy foreign minister was Poland's ambassador to Bulgaria (2007-2010), consul general in Kazakhstan and the head of the Polish Institute in Sofia. He was also head of the Government Information Centre (1998-2001). (PAP)
