Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak and Polish Aviation Plant PZL Mielec CEO Janusz Zakręcki signed a contract on Friday for the delivery of four S-70i Black Hawk helicopters.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, attending the signing ceremony, said that by signing the contract Poland not only strengthens NATO and the security of Polish skies but also Polish industry.

The PM stressed that the Friday contract "is important for the entire 'aviation valley,' for the entire Podkarpackie province and for Poland as it opens delivery opportunities for domestic small and medium firms."

According to the Defence Ministry, the cost of one S-70i Black Hawk helicopter reaches some PLN 75.0 million (EUR 17.5 million). The total value of the contract is estimated at PLN 683.4 million (EUR 159.2 million).

The contract's logistics package includes a supply of spare parts and equipment for ground maintenance. The training package provides for complex training of pilots and technical personnel.

The four helicopters, earmarked for Polish Special Forces, are to be delivered by the end of this year. (PAP)
