On Monday, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki personally congratulated the Polish medalists from the European Athletics Championships in Glasgow and the Track Cycling World Championships in Pruszków, central Poland.
During the meeting in the PM's office, Morawiecki praised Polish medalists and underscored that the medals were won both individually and in teams.
The PM expressed his good wishes and congratulations to the medalists. "I've heard that many of you are soldiers, and, thank you for being the promoters of the idea of serving the homeland in various fields," he added.
PM Morawiecki also gave the sportsmen special medals commemorating the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence and diplomas.
Poland ended the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow with five gold and two silver medals.
On Friday, Michał Haratyk won the gold in the men's shot put final.
Pole vaulter Paweł Wojciechowski, who cleared 5.90 meters, set a new indoor personal best result and took the gold. Piotr Lisek won the silver and finished the competition with a 5.85 metres vault on Saturday.
Also on Saturday, Ewa Swoboda won the 60 metres sprint competition, with a time of 7.09 seconds.
Other Poles, who took part in Saturday's finals, did not achieve any podium positions. Sylwester Bednarek came sixth in the men’s high jump, while Justyna Święty-Ersetic took the same position in the women’s 400 metres.
On Sunday, Marcin Lewandowski won the gold in the 1,500 metres sprint final, and Anna Kiełbasińska, Iga Baumgart-Witan, Małgorzata Hołub-Kowalik and Justyna Święty-Ersetic won the gold in the women's 4x400 metres relay. Sofia Ennaoui bagged silver in the women’s 1500m race.
In a separate event, Mateusz Rudyk won bronze at the 2019 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Pruszków, central Poland, on Sunday, by becoming Poland's first medalist in the men's sprint category. (PAP)
