Located in southern Poland, Silesia is home the country's heavy industry and mining, but the region is also affected by high levels of air pollution.
"For me, and not only for me, Silesia, in the broad sense, is a synonym of an industrial region - it's here that the industrial heart of Poland is beating," Morawiecki said.
"I want to promise you that regardless of how this economic change will go, we want to keep Poland's industrial heart here, in Silesia. The heart of modern industry, full of modern technology, while also respecting those industries that built Silesia, that built Poland - from traditional industries like smelting and power generation to, of course, the whole coal industry," the prime minister said.
According to Morawiecki, it is possible to combine "a green Silesia" with "an industrialised Silesia" through the use of new technologies.
Morawiecki is on top of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party's national election list in the constituency of Katowice, the capital of Silesia. Poland will hold its parliamentary election in October or early November. (PAP)
