Roman Polanski's 'An Officer and a Spy' received the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) prize at the 76th Venice International Film Festival in Lido, Italy. Jan Komasa's film 'Corpus Christi' was given the Europa Cinemas Label award.
The International Federation of Film Critics announced its verdict on the eve of the presentation of the most important awards, including the Golden Lion, at the 76th Venice Film Festival on Saturday. Polanski's Franco-Italian film is also mentioned as one of the favorites for the main prize.
Italian media wrote that the story of French captain Alfred Dreyfus, who was wrongly accused of treason and sentenced to life imprisonment was very convincing. There is a perception at Lido that it is unthinkable for this film not to receive any award, the press noted.
"Corpus Christi," a film by Jan Komasa, was presented the Europa Cinemas Label award during the festival's Authors' Days. Jury said that the Polish film "clearly presents the conflict between good and evil in today's society."
Komasa's film, inspired by real-life events, is the story of a twenty-year-old who, after leaving a juvenile detention center, pretends to be a priest. (PAP)
