Another 20 new coronavirus cases in Poland - ministry

Another 20 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Poland, bringing the total number of infections to 325, the Ministry of Health announced on Thursday at noon. To date, five people have died.

Earlier on Thursday, the ministry announced 18 new cases.

According to the ministry, 13 new cases were reported in Dolnoslaskie province, southern Poland, three in Kujawsko-Pomorskie, northern Poland, two in Podkarpackie province, south-eastern Poland, one in Lubuskie, western Poland, and one in Warminsko-Mazurskie province, north-eastern Poland.

The first case of coronavirus infection in Poland was reported on March 4, with the patient hospitalised in the western city of Zielona Gora.

The new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus causes the COVID-19 disease. Its symptoms include fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle aches and fatigue. It is suspected that coronavirus infection, which can lead to life-threatening pneumonia, first occurred in China at the end of 2019 at a market in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province.

The World Health Organization has declared the coronavirus a pandemic and urged aggressive action from all countries to fight it.

A state of epidemic threat has been in force in Poland since the weekend. (PAP)
