On the occasion of the Day of Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad, falling on May 2, Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz spoke about the importance of national unity amongst Polish communities around the world, in a video statement posted on the foreign ministry's website.

"Today, during a pandemic, we feel the strength of the national community, are proud of the attitude of our compatriots who organise help for those in need amid the fight against the epidemic," Czaputowicz said.

He praised the "great dedication" of Polish doctors and nurses working in hospitals around the world.

Czaputowicz also said that the Polish foreign ministry supports the Polish community abroad under the 'Polonia4Neighbors' campaign which, "shows that Poles are sensitive and dedicated neighbours."

According to the foreign ministry, around 20 million Polish people live outside the country. The largest Polish diaspora lives in the United States, where in 2012 Polish origin was declared by over 9.6 million people.
