From Tuesday, work will be suspended at 12 Polish coal mines, including two of the JSW group and 10 of PGG, in order to tackle an outbreak of COVID-19 among miners, State Assets Minister Jacek Sasin announced on Monday.

The pit closures will concern those collieries where full testing for coronavirus has not yet been conducted despite an outbreak among miners, Sasin told a Monday press conference following a meeting of mining company management and government officials.

Sasin added that all employees apart from "residual staff" who will continue their duties over the period of pit closures, will be put on employee downtime benefit for three weeks. (PAP)
