Polish handball players will take part in the 2021 World Cup in Egypt thanks to a "wild card" situation, the International Handball Federation announced on Thursday evening.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, on April 24, 2020, the Executive Committee of the European Handball Federation (EHF) decided to revoke qualification for the 2021 Handball World Cup to be held in Egypt.

The selection of tournament participants was based on the results of the European Championships 2020 in Sweden, Austria and Norway. Thanks to this, the right to participate in the event was also awarded to the following teams: Denmark (who will defend the world cup title), Spain, Croatia, Norway, Slovenia, Germany, Portugal, Sweden, Austria, Hungary, Belarus, Iceland, the Czech Republic and France.
