Polish police have seized over 10 million cigarettes smuggled to Poland from Singapore. The smuggleware was found in a container declared as holding rattan furniture shipped to Poland's northern seaport Gdansk.

According to police the furniture declared as the container's content was designated for a fictitious company in north Poland.

Police spokesperson Agnieszka Hamelusz told PAP that suspicions as to the container's content were raised by a police dog. She added that the smuggled cigarettes could have incurred up to PLN 11.5 million in losses for the Polish treasury.

Inquiries into who stood behind the operation are underway, Hamelusz said. (PAP)
