Poland will test teachers from three regions hit hard by the virus in January as part of a coronavirus screening scheme, the health minister announced on Tuesday.

We have decided that we want to carry out a pilot scheme on school teachers,” said Adam Niedzielski, the health minister. “We want to check the current rate of infections among teachers before children go to school, at least in these three provinces."

The minister went on to say that work on how to implement the project was continuing, and will be carried out in regions with the greatest number of infections, including Silesia, and the Podkarpackie and Malopolskie provinces.

Niedzielski added that the pilot tests would be carried out just before the end of the winter holidays.

Experts are considering a combination of the antigen test and the PCR test in larger groups to see if negative antigen results can be confirmed by the other test. He excluded the possibility of one-off antigen testing. (PAP)
