Poland spent EUR 10.72 mln in 2016 to help those affected by the Middle Eastern conflict and will offer an additional PLN 1.5 million to help reconstruct and support hospitals that will treat Syrian war victims, Polish PM Beata Szydlo said on Wednesday.

In 2016, Poland spent PLN 46 million (EUR 10.72 mln) on helping the victims of the Middle Eastern conflict, PM Szydlo said.

Beata Szydlo also announced that she had signed a relevant decree that released the PLN 1.5 million (EUR 0.35 mln) from Poland's humanitarian aid provision.

"Since the Law and Justice government took power, we have seen the necessity to offer humanitarian aid to the victims of the Middle Eastern conflict", PM Szydlo said.

PM Szydlo noted that the government had even more funds secured for such aid this year.

Poland will transfer an additional EUR 1.5 million (PLN 6.44 mln) for international refugee aid to be paid out by the UN, EU and under bilateral aid programmes, PM Szydlo said.

PM Szydlo stressed that aid directed to the area of conflicts was the best and most efficient. (PAP)
