The head of Poland's right-leaning opposition party Law and Justice (PiS) has announced that his party would propose a vote of no confidence in Izabela Leszczyna, the health minister.

Jaroslaw Kaczynski said at a press conference on Thursday that in his view the situation in healthcare is dire and that the issue was part of a broader problem of a "serious crisis of public funds."

He went on to say that "the cause of the crisis is the fact that there is widespread abuse of power."

"This abuse is a constant problem of the coalition that holds the power today," Kaczynski added, without providing further details supporting his accusation.

Kaczynski's PiS was removed from power in the wake of the October 13 parliamentary elections after eight years of the party's conservative rule. A new centrist coalition government under Prime Minister Donald Tusk took over from PiS in December last year.

The next session of the Sejm, lower house parliament, is planned for November 6-8. (PAP)
