On January 1, Poland took over the presidency of the Council of the European Union from Hungary. The official inauguration ceremony of the six-month presidency will take place on January 3 in Warsaw.
The Office of the Sejm, the lower house of the Polish parliament, said in a statement issued on Thursday that the implementation of the parliamentary dimension of the presidency will be based on organising and chairing conferences as well as inter-parliamentary meetings involving national parliaments and the European Parliament.
From January 1 until June 30, 2026, the Sejm and Senate will be responsible for the organisation of these events and will host seven inter-parliamentary conferences. Six of them will take place in Warsaw and one in Brussels, at the European Parliament.
The programme of these events includes discussions on various aspects of the European Union's security, as well as initiatives aimed at bringing the EU closer to its citizens and supporting societies.
Ministers, commissioners, and Members of the European Parliament will be invited to participate in the conferences. (PAP)
