Poland, France, Germany, and Italy have signed a letter of intent to develop a cruise missile with a range of over 500 kilometres, Poland's foreign ministry has reported.

The leaders signed the agreement on Thursday during NATO's 75th anniversary summit in Washington, DC.

"The aim is to establish cooperation in the development of a key deep-impact capability and, in the future, joint projects on specific measures to close gaps, reduce costs and lead times," the ministry wrote.

According to Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, Poland's defence minister, the cooperation will enable the exchange of expertise and joint purchase of missiles that "are already being developed."

"We are counting on more countries to join, I would not like to limit myself to these four," he said. "We will see the results over the next 12 months." (PAP)
