Donald Tusk, Poland's prime minister, has arrived in the UK for the European Political Community (EPC) summit, during which he will meet with the new head of the British government, Keir Starmer.

The fourth meeting of the EPC brought together leaders from across the continent at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. The agenda includes continued support for Ukraine and shared challenges related to security and illegal migration.

The summit to be chaired by Starmer is seen as a chance for the UK for a new beginning in international relations after years of tensions with the EU caused by Brexit.

Face-to-face meetings between Tusk and Starmer, Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and his British counterpart, David Lammy, are planned during the event.

Tusk will also take part in a session on defence and security, co-chaired by President of the European Council Charles Michel and President of Montenegro Jakov Milatovic.

The leaders will attend a reception with Britain's King Charles III.

The EPC is a forum initiated in 2022 by French President Emmanuel Macron following the Russian aggression against Ukraine, aimed to promote dialogue and cooperation. In addition to the 27 EU countries, its members include Turkey, Albania, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Ukraine, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

The EPC meetings are held twice a year. Previous summits were held in Spain (October 2023), Moldova (June 2023) and the Czech Republic (October 2022). (PAP)
