During a joint press conference which followed the meeting in Warsaw on Wednesday, Sikorski said: "Both Poland and Spain share a common assessment of the situation concerning key international policies and security matters, as well as significant potential for enhancing bilateral cooperation."
He revealed that, during the discussion with his Spanish counterpart, he had highlighted security and defence as the fundamental pillars of Poland's presidency in the EU Council.
He also mentioned that both he and Albares had reaffirmed their continued support for Ukraine within the frameworks of the EU and NATO and that Spain's assistance to Ukraine had taken the form of both direct military aid, and involvement in humanitarian and developmental projects.
The Spanish minister added that the issue of peace in Ukraine could not be addressed without European involvement and must be linked to security guarantees for Ukraine and its neighbours.
The situation in the Middle East and collaboration with the administration of Donald Trump was also discussed, said Sikorski, and expressed his belief that transatlantic ties were beneficial to the United States as well; he assured that he would advocate this perspective to American partners.
Sikorski also spoke about the fact that Spain was an important trade partner for Poland and, in the year 2023, turnover was at a record level between the two countries.
Additionally, he reported that the conversation included a talk concerning EU cooperation with Latin American countries and the organisation of the EU-CELAC (European Union-Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) summit. (PAP)
