An incident involving a light aircraft occurred during a training operation at Warsaw Chopin Airport on Monday, causing a short suspension of flights, the spokeswoman for the airport has told PAP.

"Today at 3.14pm at Warsaw Chopin Airport, an incident occurred during a so-called 'touch and go operation' (a training operation during which a plane lands and immediately takes off without leaving the runway) by a light civil aircraft," Anna Dermont said.

She confirmed that airport emergency services were on site and the two people involved in the incident had not been injured.

Dermont added that due to the incident operations at the airport were temporarily brought to a halt.

Warsaw Chopin Airport is the largest airport in Poland. In 2023, it served 18.5 million passengers, and in the whole of 2024 - according to forecasts - it will handle 20.5 million passengers, about 10 percent more than a year earlier. For comparison, in 2015, the airport handled approximately 10 million passengers throughout the whole year. (PAP)
