Bartlomiej Ciazynski, a deputy justice minister, has resigned from his post following media reports that he used his company car and fuel card while on holiday.

The minister from the Left parliamentary caucus announced his resignation at a press conference on Wednesday.

The decision has been triggered by a news report published by the online news service wp.pl that Ciazynski took his company car on a family trip to Slovenia and "refuelled it twice, paying with a company fuel card." The car and the card belong to the Polish Centre for Technology Development, where Ciazynski worked before becoming a deputy minister.

"I didn't know that I could not do it," he said, apologising for the situation and adding that he had already covered the expenses due.

Earlier that day, Donald Tusk, the prime minister, referred to the news on the X platform, saying that "mistakes happen, but they have to be paid for..., especially in case of people in authority." He added that the minister "certainly knows what he should do."(PAP)
