Drugs found on Polish ship off Brazilian coast

Police in Brazil have have seized half a ton of cocaine from the Polish owned ship 'Jawor', the g1 internet portal wrote on Sunday,

The ship is part of the fleet of the Polish Steamship Company(PZM), wrote the portal quoting information from the prosecution. 

According to the Brazilian police force the seizure of the drugs happened shortly before the ship moored in the Port of Itaqui, Sao Luis, Maranhao state, northeastern Brazil, the gl portal wrote. The ship was sailing under the flag of the Bahamas   

On Sunday, PZM spokesman Krzysztof Gogol told PAP that the crew of the bulk carrier 'Jawor' found several 40-kilogramme packages with drugs that were supposedly planted while the ship lay at anchor.

Brazilian police said that the illegal cargo found on the ship was the largest shipment of cocaine seized in the history of Maranhao state.

An interrogation of the crew is underway and they could face charges of drug trafficking and belonging to an organised crime group.(PAP)
