At a joint press conference after Monday's talks with visiting Czech PM Andrej Babis, the head of the Polish government stressed that Poland and the Czech Republic share a common stance with regard to work on the multi-annual post-2020 EU budget.
"We are actually of the same opinion as to which items in this budget should be defended," Morawiecki said. He noted that the quality of the budget is of utmost importance for Prague and Warsaw, and that "the pace of its adoption is important, but secondary to quality."
"First and foremost, our interests must be taken into account - and our position in Brussels is fixed: a common agricultural policy, agricultural funds, road and railway development funds, and all structural funds - these must be maintained in the interests of countries which are trying to catch up with Western Europe," Morawiecki stressed. He also pointed out that the countries of Western Europe "derive significant benefits" from European integration, as well.
"We will certainly fight for and obtain the appropriate budget for Poland and the Central European countries," Morawiecki declared. (PAP)
