In all 1.2 million Poles took part in Sunday's countrywide Epiphany (Three Kings' Day) observations, the biggest procession was held in Warsaw (60,000), the celebration organising Epiphany Procession Foundation informed on Sunday afternoon.

The second-biggest Three Kings' Day event took place in Kraków, south Poland, the foundation said.

This year's Epiphany motto was "renew the face of the Earth,", in reference to Polish-born Pope John Paul II's words in Warsaw during a 1979 pontifical visit in Poland.

President Andrzej Duda, First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda and former PM Beata Szydło attended a procession in Wadowice by Kraków, known as the birthplace of Kraków Cardinal Karol Wojtyła, who in 1978 was elected to the papacy as John Paul II. (PAP)
