Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in Davos on Thursday that Poland was better protected against Brexit than many other countries and stressed that Poland's economic growth in 2018 was around 5 percent of GDP.

PM Morawiecki visited the Polish House in Davos on Thursday, where he met with Romanian Deputy PM Ana Birchall.

After the meeting, Morawiecki told a Polish public radio broadcaster that "Poland is better protected against Brexit than many other countries as the monetary policy, which is conducted in Poland in a different way than by the European Central Bank or in other parts of the world, is always a protective measure."

Morawiecki explained that Poland's interest rates stood at 1.5 percent and stressed that this helped to react properly in monetary policy.

The prime minister stressed that a 3.5-percent economic growth forecast by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund for the global economy in 2019 "is not a bad result."

He also expressed his hope that Poland's economy will expand faster, just like in 2018. "Our economic expansion was around 5 percent and it surprised everybody. I believe that this year Poland will also produce a positive surprise," he stressed.

The Polish PM went to Davos on Wednesday to take part in the 49th World Economic Forum. (PAP)
